32 palm prints from children I see every day and 32 of from my own hands.
Working in an after school program since September has allowed me to form relationships and bond with a group of elementary aged children. As I watch these kids grow up, I am constantly reflecting on my own childhood memories of teachers, babysitters, and camp counselors. These memories are hazy, unaware of specific events or dates. Although I am around this group of students every day, I can’t help but wonder: which child will remember me the most and which will forget me entirely?
Soon, as make my next transition, I will become just a thought, just a vague memory.
And that’s the beauty of being a kid.
